You already know having a good web site, complementing your store, helps your business. Helping customers find you online makes a large difference in your bottom line as well.
- Decide on what your message is. When people search for your store, what are the keywords they type into the search engine? Are you being pulled up organically or in the sponsored listings? What is your competitors message/slogan and why are they being pulled up instead of you? An example is Zales. I typed in jewelry and they are in the first five listings.
- Use page titles. When possible, make the heading in your content the same to keep keywords consistent.
- Use good content in your interior pages. It's one thing to get people to your homepage, but you want to make sure they stay on your site for a while and read as much information as possible.
- Create a distinct meta tag for each page. Your description meta tag should be a short paragraph that includes as many of your top keywords or phrases as possible, but is still understandable and stimulating to visitors. Do not sacrifice good content by getting carried away with key phrases.
- Have related businesses link to your site and reciprocate.
