4 Types of e-Shoppers - Are You Attracting Them Properly?
April 3, 2007
There are 4 main types of e-shoppers that will be visiting your site.
- Surfers: These are the window shoppers; the ones who are browsing web sites. They may have found your web address through something they've seen (store tag, promotion, ad, search engine, etc.) and are coming to visit you for the first time, or they may be repeats to see if you're offering anything new.
- Bargain Shoppers: They visitors are looking for price only, and in order to compete on something besides price, you can engage them through discussion groups, large "SALE" clipart, and offering advice and interaction with other shoppers looking for bargains. Keep them abreast of sales through emails and send them coupons prior to the event.
- Connectors: These people love the web for its community element, and enjoy connecting with others. You can gain their trust and attention by associating yourself with brand names, chat rooms, videos, etc. They want to be able to form a connection with you, and through that, form a bond where they feel comfortable buying from you.
- Impulse Buyers: They e-shoppers account almost half of all shopping online, and they're the ones who find something they like and buy it immediately. Make sure your web site offers them they can buy quickly (not a lot of steps), saves their credit card information if they've bought from you before, and that you site is engaging and features new selections as often as possible.
When reviewing your web site, determine which target you're hitting most effectively. Study your web site analytics / metrics and find out where shoppers are looking, reading and dropping off your site. This will help you focus on capturing their interest and keeping them as buying/repeat customers.
