Are You Ranking Your Customers?
July 11, 2007

Finding your best customers, and keeping them happy, is easier with a ranking system.  This way, you are able to determine who they are, what they like, how often they shop, and how to attract more like them.  Building a profile based on their character traits maximizes your return on your marketing budget.

Five Steps for Ranking Your Customers:

  1. Pull a list of your customers from your database or notebook
  2. Rank each customer on: buying frequency, types of products bought, profitability associated with these products, special requests, complaints, and method of payment.
  3. Notice if you follow the 80/20 rule:  80% of your business is supplied by 20% of your customers
  4. Target these customers more aggressively with coupons, discounts, special gifts, etc.
  5. Build a marketing plan around their character traits to draw in more people like them.
