I Want A Quick eStore Now
February 6, 2007
I had a discussion yesterday with 3 retailers who want to build an eCommerce web site, but want to do it themselves. Their problems were:
1. They're not programmers, nor do they really understand how web sites work.
2. They don't want to spend a fortune.
3. They want a solution that holds their hand and walks them through each step.
After researching their needs, here are 5 companies that I recommend:
- Web.com -
for $19.95 a month, you can build a web site using their sitebuilder and sell a small selection your products. For $59.95 a month, you can create an online catalog, build your eStore, accept credit cards, etc.
- Yahoo Small Business solutions -
Yahoo bases their pricing model on how projected sales volumes. The more you sell, the more they charge. This includes a large database of web site templates to help you build your site quickly.
- Network Solutions Pro E-Commerce / MonsterCommerce -
On the Network Solutions web site, they promote a storefront for $99.95 a month. There is also a one-time set-up fee. On MonsterCommerce web site, they offer a standard storefront option for $49.95 a month.
- JustAddCommerce -
This is a complete e-commerce package in a box that you install on your computer. This is an option if you have a web site that you're happy with and just want to add on the shopping component.
- Flashecom.net -
This gives you a try before you buy option, plus explains the 7 steps it takes to use their product. This is a good option if you want to really understand how everything works.
If you want to compare web designer costs without handling your own request-for-proposals, here are two sites that will help you with this process: www.vendorseek.com and www.buyerzone.com.
A shopping cart solution is easier to implement than you think. Do a little shopping around (no pun intended) for the best package that fits your budget and you can be up and running in less than 2 weeks.
