Ideas For Making Your Web Site Better

I received my weekly Border Rewards email yesterday, complete with coupons and news about their latest releases. I love using their coupons to save money on my purchases, and I find I tend to buy more when I know I'm saving money. That got me thinking...if Borders does this successfully, why can't you? Here are 3 things they do well:

  1. They use coupons and email them out regularly. In fact, their whole Borders Rewards email is pretty much nothing but coupons and discount offers. You could do this for services, items you're trying to move, new products you've just received, Mother's Day inventory, etc. etc. The list is endless.
  2. On their web site, you can search their inventory. I highly recommend using a search tool on your web site regardless of how small of a store you have. If you have inventory of over 50 products, let people know what you offer so they can shop with you. (If I cannot find something on your web site, I go somewhere else...just a FYI.)
  3. They have gift cards. You don't have to get as fancy, but allowing people to buy gift certificates from you to give as gifts goes a long way. Being able to order them online makes life much easier for people (like me) who wait until the last minute to buy a present. If you offer this option, I bet you'll see an increase in your sales, especially around holidays.
For more ideas, check out your favorite retailer and see what their site offers. If you like it and use it, chances are your customers will too.
