Quick Stat: Facebook Soars

January 28, 2010
Last week comScore released their December 2009 U.S. Media Metrix data. comScore is arguably the global leader in measuring the digital world and the preferred source of digital marketing intelligence, and this report provides marketers and business owners important insights into how best to allocated limited marketing resources.

The stand-out story of the last year continues to be Facebook. According to comScore, "In the past year alone, Facebook more than doubled its U.S. audience from 54.5 million visitors in December 2008 to 111.9 million visitors in December 2009. It went from being the #11 ranked property to the #4 ranked property. It now accounts for 7 percent of all time spent online in the U.S."

Facebook grew across nearly every performance metric measured–unique visitors, page views, and total time spent all increased  at least two-fold. Frequency metrics such as average minutes per usage day (up 6 percent) and average usage days per visitors (up 37 percent) also increased.

What's It To You?
In a nutshell, more people are using Facebook more frequently to the point that the social networking site now accounts for three times as much total time spent online as it did last year.

If your target market is hanging out on Facebook, should you be too?
