Rethink Your Businesses Shipping Needs by Considering USPS

July 18, 2008

I am a huge USPS fan. My commercial insurance policy includes free coverage of packages insured up to $25,000 sent per day so I figure the cheapest and easiest way to send packages is through the United States Postal Service. Yes…USPS. Some advantages:

  1. Free Express mail supplies. Boxes, flat rate envelopes, pouches, stickers and more.
  2. Free carrier pick-up to your office or home office.
  3. Store your business’s address and corporate information online. Pay for the package online, set-up a carrier pick-up, and even order supplies all in one click.

UPS, Fed-Ex, and other shipping companies charge more than the post office. They have a pick-up service, but so does the post office. The old advantage companies like UPS had over the post office, was, a pick-up service. But in recent years, the post office has made a comeback with a great pick-up service. You don’t even need to leave the house.

This is great information. I have read many time USPS has made a comeback. How do you suggest an online retailer charge for shipping? Is it worth investing in software to figure out flat rates for different zones and product weights?

...In (7) plus years: USPS has never, NEVER lost a single package I've shipped or received. ( UPS 'OOPS'?..(3). 'FedUp'?..(5))
In addition, USPS also offers a free software system called 'Shipping-Assistant'. Far superior to Stamps.com or Endicia.com. It's usable with or without a postal meter.
It also gives you discounted DC & SC (18 cents for DC.)
