How Can My Business Fight Spam?
June 20, 2008

On an ordinary day I receive well over a few dozen emails with deceptive subject lines. So, how do you stop spam overload?

  1. I use to reply to spam messages and ask to be removed, but unfortunately that did not reduce the amount of unwanted mailings. Instead, I think they figured out they had a live one on their hands and it increased the amount of junk mail I was receiving.
  2. Next, I tried routing my mail through Gmail, which my sister told me offers excellent spam filtering, but it just wasn’t a good deal. For starters, mixing Gmail IMAP with my existing Outlook Express setup was disorganized and complicated.
  3. Finally, I found out my hosting company can employ a spam blocker, such as SpamAssassin, at the server level. With this my spam was transported to a particular junk folder before I even saw it, but it only caught about 10-15% of the junk.

How do you really stop the junk?
