Is a Kiosk Lucrative?
June 4, 2007

With sky rocketing rental prices for stores with doors, kiosks have become a great way to make a profit while still being apart of the retail sector.

My parents business is located in a mall in South Florida and I’ve walked by tons of kiosks in the mall wondering how lucrative they really are. A retailer of cigars, cigarette lighters, and various neat electronics told me, “It's a lot cheaper than having a store with doors.”

I found out kiosk owners pay a monthly fee plus a percentage of sales to the management of the venues where the carts are located. This is the same as my parents who own a store with doors in a mall, though they pay much higher rent than an owner of a kiosk does. Then there are those retailers who purchase pushcarts and sell them for heaps of money.

Therefore, next time you say pushcart and the person sitting next to you laughs mention Joseph Coyne who said, “With a good cart you can bring in $55,000 in a holiday season.”
