Mobile Billboards
August 31, 2007
When it comes to advertising, our store has tried almost everything—from newspaper Ads, direct mail, to television commercials and more. Nothing has provided the real breakthrough we’ve been looking.
In a conversation about our upcoming Grand Opening Event for our newest location in Charlotte, NC my radio advertising agent suggested mobile billboards. At first I couldn’t help but laugh—the thought of a cheesy diamond ad on some truck riding around town—but then I realized people block pop-ups everyday, they throw away most flyers via snail mail unless it’s a bill, during a radio they change the channel if music is what they are interested in hearing, a commercial during TV is when you get up and go to the bathroom or is skipped using a Tivo or DVR—so what can I try?
While you’re driving you’re aware of almost everything around you—unless you’re on the cell phone of course—mobile advertising might be a great idea combined with the radio spots. The billboard would target all types of consumers while driving around on the nearest freeway and through the cities top 10 zip codes. I thought what a great way to target consumers who are stuck in their car and can’t avoid seeing the huge color image with our businesses name and Grand Opening details.
For a very short term promotion such as a Grand Opening, I think mobile billboards can be a great way to create a buzz and draw attention to the business or event. Have you considered mobile advertising?
