How Can Podcasting Help My Business Grow?
July 5, 2007

Podcasting is delivering audio content to portable media players, phones, and computers on demand, so that it can be listened to at the user's convenience. Many people believe that podcasting is used solely for the distribution of music files, but nothing could be further from the truth. This emerging method of audio file distribution has opened an array of marketing and communication opportunities to businesses.

Podcasting is a next generation of radio. Thanks to the fact that podcasting is integrated into RSS you can receive your favorite podcasts using your favorite RSS reader software. Audio and video podcasts are simple MP3 files and RSS feeds contain links to these MP3 files.

Here is a list of ways podcasting can be used as a major marketing tool to help your small or medium businesses grow:

  1. Create a customer support podcast which could be available for customers to listen to, in which frequently asked questions about a service or product that you offer are asked and answered.
  2. You can create a podcast regarding news and knowledge about new products that your company has released.
  3. Publish an audio file for your customer that explains your businesses monthly promotions and/or events.
  4. Create a podcast of demonstrations and testimonials of specific products bought from your company.
  5. Other various examples:

·        Preschools and day care centers can offer parenting tips.

·        Jewelry stores can offer knowledge regarding a diamonds clarity, color, cut, and carat weight.

·        Colleges can offer student calendars freshmen orientations, and campus tours.

·        The National Guard and other military branches can use podcasts to recruit and talk about the various college opportunities they offer.

·        Stock brokers can offer tips on trading, mutual funds, CD's, etc.

·        Companies like expedia.com, hotels.com, orbitz.com, and even travel agents can offer video tours of hotels and/or popular cities.

·        Religious organizations can use podcasts to distribute weekly sermons, eulogize their beliefs and offerings, and otherwise share their message.

·        Companies can offer training videos and audio files for their employees and volunteers.
