Men’s Night Only

July 21, 2009

I want to throw a men’s night sometime in November to help jump start the special orders. I’ve talked to my vendors and friends about ideas—and it’s sad in some aspects but I keep hearing men are only interested in the following:

  1. Booze
  2. Lovely Ladies
  3. Gambling
  4. Sports

Does that about sum it up? So—in order to make the night fun and entice men to shop I need to have at least 3 of the above—that’s what I’m hearing. Here are some ideas my vendors and friends shared:

  1. High-end jeweler invites Hooters girls, a local college golfer to give tips, poker table, and drinks. Me: I think the Hooter’s girls is a tacky idea but this high-end watch company told me it worked out beautifully and they raffled away a watch at the end of the night.
  2. Poker and Blackjack tables and booze. Portion of the sales went to a local charity.
  3. Football star invited who signed autographs. A $10,000 shopping spree was given away. Me: This is probably more than I want to spend. How much does pro-ball player cost for the night?
  4. Sports Player and local car dealership sits high-end vehicle outside.

Any of you who have thrown a men’s night…do these things really boost sales? Are men too preoccupied…Does it just end up being a party and not enough sales? Do raffles and sports personalities really help?

The store I worked at did a ladies night in November that had wine, cheese, champagne. We encouraged the women to come in and see what was new and create their wish lists for Christmas. Huge hit with the women.

In early December, we'd host a men's night where we'd have finger foods: pigs in a blanket, wings, meatballs, etc and beer. We found the men who came in didn't want to spend a ton of time in a jewelry store and were there to just grab a few bites to eat, drink a free beer and purchase whatever their significant other had picked out during ladies night.

Combined both events weren't a big expense for the store, but definitely reaped HUGE benefits.
