A Priceless Opportunity
December 25, 2007

Have you ever seen the MasterCard commercials that use the tag line, priceless? That’s what came to mind when I debated writing about the topic Influencing Generations of Offspring. The reason I felt this way is because the premise behind this blog is “succession planning builds value.” And when most people think of value they typically think about monetary value. In my last post I discussed three ways to influence generations of offspring and, while money is involved in two of the three ways, value in this case represents “values.”

Each business owner has a unique motivation and perspective on how their business is conducted, operated and what happens to the business in the future (whether it should be kept or sold). I have interacted with hundreds of businesses each of whom does business in different ways and that have different core values by which they operate. Some are in it just for the money. Others are in it to provide opportunities for employees and to impact lives. As business owners, individuals and parents, you have an opportunity to influence generations of offspring by exhibiting morals, values and attitudes which could include: character, integrity, respect, perseverance, work ethic and many others you could add to the list. So, what are you waiting for? There are employees and managers watching your every move.
