Creating a Construction Website: Writing the Content
February 20, 2008

Writing content for your website isn’t as easy as just giving readers the facts. You have to convince them that your page is the one they were looking for. You want them to believe with no doubt that your services are what they want.

Most readers will look at your titles first, so the first thing you should do is block out where information will be on your website.

Remember the last step you took when creating your website structure? Now you are going to use those website structure sheets to establish the content structure of your website. Start with your homepage. In point form write down what you would like to include on your homepage.

Some things to include could be:

  • Short description of your company.
  • Special features your company offers.
  • Featured work you have completed.

Some Tips:

  • Don’t include too much on your homepage, you want readers to visit the other pages of your site.
  • If you are going to include featured work on your homepage, keep it short and link it to your portfolio page (if you have chosen to have one.)
  • Make it interesting. The more interesting your homepage is, the longer a visitor will spend viewing your website.

Next, take a look at each page your will have on your website and follow the same steps as above to establish your content structure.

Afterwards, take a look back through your pages and add any information you may have forgotten.

Now, with a pencil draw squares on the pages with arrows pointing from your point form notes to the box you want the information in.

Now that you have determined what information will be on your website, and where it will go, it is time to start writing.

Make sure you have the list of keywords that you created while ensuring your search engine optimization.

Again, start with your homepage. Take each point you wrote down and turn it into a paragraph. While you are writing try to include at least one keyword in each sentence, this will help with your search engine optimization. Work with each point separately, writing a paragraph to explain the point. Once you have finished each point for the make, move to the next page.

After you have completed all the pages, it is time to start designing your website
