BIM: Why you should get involved.
July 1, 2008

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a new concept emerging in the design community. The concept is to design buildings in 3D with the Architect and Consulting Engineers all working together from the very beginning, much like LEED requires for certification. The software used for BIM style designing also provides the ability to “walk-through” the building.

Although the BIM concept is primarily focused within the design community, it involves contractor as well. Here are some of the benefits of learning about BIM now, rather than waiting until BIM becomes industry standard.

·        It still provides a printable copy to make notes on.

·        It lowers the amount of change orders speeding up the work and decreasing paperwork.

·        BIM Software allows you to create quantity take-offs.

·        BIM Software allows you to create detailed estimates.

·        Many municipalities and developers are requiring Architect and Contractors to use the BIM concept for their projects.

·        It allows for more detailed specifications in a shorter timeline.

Essentially BIM will allow your company to complete construction quicker, allowing you to complete more projects. The more you are able to build, the more money you can make.
