Top Ten New Years Resolutions for Owners and Sales Managers

January 12, 2009 Last blog we looked at the top ten resolutions for salespeople. Therefore, I thought it fair and appropriate that I would share with you my top ten resolutions for storeowners and sales managers. I hope that you enjoy them and make them your own.

1) I will set goals and constantly work to improve the productivity of my staff.
2) I will strive to give my people help not hell through devoting time to each individual.
3) I will manage based on objective information rather than subjective information.
4) I will become a better listener, communicator and motivator.
5) I will conduct weekly sales staff meetings focusing on sales techniques, product knowledge, operations, customer service and recognition of accomplishments.
6) I will listen in on sales presentations and offer constructive coaching.
7) I will make training a process rather than an event.
8) I create an environment of personal growth and development.
9) I will adhere to my responsibilities of providing the leadership, knowledge, training, incentives, and consequences in order to recruit, hire, develop and maintain successful salespeople.
10) I will provide positive reinforcement at least ten to one over negative
criticism.

On the objective vs subjective information, i have been exchanging ideas with other writers and agents and the general concensus is that only women buy books and when I asked for hard data on this topic (how many books do men buy?) everyone just gave me the knee jerk reaction...only women buy books so we write, represent and sell books that only appeal to women. When I persisted, I was told I am simply misguided and to get with the program.
