The Definition of the Job of a Salesperson!
July 5, 2007

Here is a basic definition or job description of the professional know as professional salesperson. That is:

One that causes the exchange of ownership of a product or service based on the
customer's wants and needs with integrity.

As you can see I have underlined four words those being causes, wants, needs and integrity. I believe that singel-handedly a salesperson can cause the success or failure of a store or a company. You can cause a customer to buy from you or nor buy from you. Selling based on the customer's wants and needs is essential. Too often salespeople try to sell based on the reasons that they want to sell, not based on the reasons that the customer wants to buy. Think about it. Ask the question "What is important to you in selecting a _________?" and the customer might just tell you exactly what is important to them in buying from you. They might tell you that they don't know and thus telling you to give tham a reason to buy.

Sell based on integrity is pretty much self-explanatory. A professional salesperson should never have to resort to not telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth in maling a sales presentation. In many cases there is a huge gray area of integrity that could be entered. Be straight forward and honest.
