Personal Problems
August 24, 2007

There are two things I know about personal problems. One - is that 90% of the people out there really don't care about your personal problems, and two, the other 10% are just glad that your life is more miserable than theirs. In other words they are more than happy to share their personal problems. Have you ever walked up to someone and said "how are you" only to be engaged in a 10 minute conversation about how miserable their life is? My point of this blog is to encourage salespeople to keep their personal problems out of business. People don't want to hear about your personal issues or to have you try to one up them that your personal problem is a bigger issue than theirs. As a salesperson you are the hairdresser, manicurist, bartender etc. People will tell you all their personal issue. Be their to listen, not one up them, and suddenly you will be their best friend.

Leave your baggage or personal issues at the back door or in the back room. The second you are face to face with a potential customer you need to have a big smile on your face. People want to deal with happy people. Have the correct body language, a smile on your face, and an eagerness to learn all you can about the customer at it will serve you well. People buy many things based on emotional reasons. People want you to share in the emotional excitement behind their purchase. Be there for them and the rewards will be increased sales. It all starts with not bringing your personal problems to work.
