Knowledge is Power - I don't think so!
July 10, 2007

Everyone has heard the old saying that "Knowledge is Power", I don't believe it. Knowledge alone doesn't give anyone power. In other words I know a lot of very smart, broke people that don't use their knowledge and talent. I believe that the USE of knowledge is power. Having the knowledge and using it are two different things.

As salespeople we have to continually look to increase our knowledge and the application of the knowledge. The way that people buy is changing and our products and services are changing all the time. Should you sit back and rest on your laurels, chances are you will get behind.

At many of my seminars I ask how many of you can name the last 10 books that you have read on sales and/or customer service. Rarely do I get even one person that can name 10 books. Then I ask how many can name 5 books or even 1 book. My point is that we are in the business of sales and customer service. If we don't constantly look to increase our knowledge and education and then apply the information we may be missing opportunities.
Since you are reading this blog I have to believe that you are one of the few that seeks knowledge. Well done. Should you be a business owner or sales manager I would encourage you to start and/or maintain a library of educational material for your salespeople and then have them read them. I have always believed that if a business owner or sales manager can create an enviroment of person growth and development, then that company will be successful. There is a wealth of valuable information available for the taking.
