Building Trust Among Members of a Team, Pt. 2
July 23, 2007
It’s a universal truth in life, politics and business that what gets measured, gets done. If you’re struggling to build a team that’s cohesive, collaborative and productive, it may pay to look at whether you’re actually measuring them to be those exact 3 things.
To be sure of always building the team that helps you compete and succeed think about how you might institute the following:
- Team Goals : Encourage the team to collaborate with a financial or operational goal that everyone on the team must play a part in and contribute to.
- Structure : set up the organization so that people have no choice but to collaborate – in other words their individual success depends on their ability to work with others.
- When training or offsite opportunities arise, send them in pairs rather than individually: those who learn together, stick together.
- Have a quarterly social – drinks, bowling, movie night or host a barbeque at your place over the weekend just for the team
- Bring in someone from outside to run short team building sessions for you: there are lots of independent trainers out there who don’t charge an arm and a leg and can do a great job for you. Check your local Chamber of Commerce for who’s out there.
Good luck!
