"Retro" Strategic Planning: The Onion’s Take on Radio Shack
January 11, 2009

I couldn’t resist. Even though
The Onion is to newspaper what
Saturday Night Live is to TV,
this article spoofing
Radio Shack did actually raise an interesting question, “How can they still be in business?” Amazingly, despite the sarcasm, what it says is true. It’s both hilarious and not at the same time. Perhaps even a little disturbing to have a business defy conventional wisdom and have nothing about it add up at all.
The second interesting question that this raises for me is, "What do their strategy meetings look like?" I wonder if they are afraid to update their image and move into this century for fear that it could kill what they've got. Maybe there's more to be said for living in the past than we think.
