Constructing A Great Place To Work
July 9, 2007
We would like to congratulate a number of companies in the construction industry who have just achieved the remarkable feat of making it into the
Top 25 Small and Medium sized companies “Great Place to Work” lists courtesy of The Great Place to Work Institute. To put the enormity of this into perspective, when Google won the award earlier this year for the number one place to work in America overall, courtesy of The Great Place To Work Institute, it prompted a Fortune Magazine cover story and a mountain of media coverage.
The Construction industry has every reason to be rejoicing right now thanks to their stellar showing in the most recent lists. Number One in the medium sized company list goes to none other than
Holder Construction Co in Atlanta – up from number two last year. Celebrated for their collaborative, open culture where employees can literally design their own jobs to meet their skills and interests, Holder beat out stiff competition from the Health Care, IT, Financial Services, Advertising and Manufacturing sectors. Nice work Holder!
Also coming in at number 19 on the medium sized company list was
Hoar Construction in Birmingham, Alabama. Hoar have their very own Employee University, making good on their commitment to learning and development as a core part of their culture. They’re also a generous, charitable company who match every dollar donated by employees to community projects.
On the small company side, three companies in the Construction industry made it into the elusive Top 25. That’s a phenomenal representation for the industry when you consider there are hundreds of thousands of small companies in America. Congratulations to
McWhinney Real Estate Services (Number 13) who celebrate a set of core values – taking care of their culture, taking care of their customers and taking care of the community. (And yes, that does sound easier than it really is). Not far behind is
Bowen Engineering in Fishers, Indiana at Number 19 with their largely employee owned stock and celebratory trips to places like Jamaica and Las Vegas for employees and their spouses. Nudging Bowen was
Urban Innovations Ltd in Chicago, a place where the President gets his hands dirty alongside the construction crews a couple of times every year and every department has its own mission statement in support of the broader company goals of helping people reach their highest aspirations.
Huge congratulations to everyone on the list – whether you’re building skyscrapers or townhouses, you have earned your accolades and have every reason to feel on top of the world!<P>
