Walmart: From Customer Service to Lip Service
August 5, 2008

Have you heard the latest with Walmart? Apparently, they are being accused of manipulating employees to vote Republican by using fear tactics. It was reported last week that Management is trying to influence the vote among its 1.4 million workers in order to avoid the enactment of a bill the Obama supports and McCain opposes which would make the process of unionizing easier.

Here is my issue with Walmart… They have a pattern. So no matter what they say in their defense, despite how believable it sounds, as far as I’m concerned, they can only deny their guilt for so long, and not sound guilty. So while I would love to believe that this is all very innocent, I’m having a hard time buying it.

Back in the early 1900's, the heyday of the "Robber Barons" they would have employed "goons" and even the local Police to harass, intimidate and beat up workers who attempted to organize. Now they use propaganda and fearmongering to manipulate elections. You can bet that the Walton family, among the richest billionaires in the world, contribute heavily to the proper politico's!

With the massive tax breaks given the mega wealthy, of course the Walton family is going to back the Republicans. If the Democrats take away their tax advantage - or as one broker called it "The Salad Days of the wealthy", then they'll have to pay more taxes. By pushing their employees to help make the family wealthier (while still not offering living wages or insurance to their staff), it's exactly like the robber barons of by-gone years. I hope somebody calls them out on it for what it is. But it's doubtful since they own the media too.
