Going Viral 2.0: Going Nowhere with Facebook in Week Three

August 24, 2008 Well, I’d been expecting some major epiphany by now with Facebook.  But I’m in week three with very little exciting news to report.  Unless of course, we want to count my three new friends as “big news.”  What I am enjoying is hearing from people whom I don’t know that well, and whom I’d never in a million years have heard from sans the technology the enabled it.  For that I think Facebook offers a unique opportunity to build new relationships and learn things about people whom would otherwise be forever out of reach.   That said, I am still feeling that there is too much useless information and I only see that getting worse as networks exponentially grow.

From a business perspective though, I get it.  Facebook, and other sites like it, connect a viable, captive and engaged audience that is funneled through one distribution channel.  It’s efficient.  It’s effective.  It’s flexible.  And it’s visual.  But I’m not saying anything new here. Admittedly, I’m late to the party and behind the curve.

And so, my Facebook chronicle was short lived.  I’ll just fold into line with the rest of the world and start ‘friending” people in my spare time whom I happen to like or find interesting.  I'll also keep in mind something my father always told me, which was, "It is what you make it."
