Making the Most from Your Business Credit Card

Dan Blank -- Expert Business Source, 4/4/2007 6:15:00 AM

Credit-card companies have been aggressive in courting small businesses. Smart Money offers tips to help you get the most out of your business credit card:

  • Don’t user your personal credit card for business expenses.
Not only is it easier to keep track of expenses, but you can write off fees associated with the business card, and you won’t risk damaging your personal credit score with extra debt.
  • Choose reward programs that speak to your business needs.
Don’t let rewards distract you. If you plan to carry a balance, choose a program with a low interest rate. Only go for reward programs that will offer savings on items or services that your business needs. And of course, read the fine print!
  • Diversify.
If you get multiple offers for cards that offer different rewards – maximize that opportunity. Consider opening a couple accounts with different rewards programs, and use them strategically. For example, one card that gives you rebates on gas, and another for airline rewards.
